1-1 training works best for those individuals who have a very specific idea of what they want from their language courses, especially those at a higher level within the business. It also works for those who can’t commit to a regular training slot. Selecting the right course trainer is essential. Dialogue takes inordinate care to provide the one that works well with the individual learner.

We can adapt a 1-1 course in terms of the flexibility, intensity and the content of each course. One additional benefit is that we can cater better for changes to the schedule. It is easier to adapt to those inevitable last-minute changes such as the teleconference next Monday or the surprise business trip to meet the new client.

Small groups

Small group courses of between 2 and 6 people work well if there is a need for a business-wide capability in the foreign language. A good group dynamic instils a little healthy competition, can foster team-building and of course is significantly more time-efficient and cost-effective per head than 1-1.

A small group still allows for a tailored course which can work around the needs of the individual group and the group individual. The only real constraint is that you need a group of people who can make themselves available at the same time on a regular basis.

Larger groups

If there is less of an imperative and immediacy about the training, it’s useful to consider larger group training for between 7 and 10 people. Although progress may be a little slower, a foundation in the language can be laid and as the imperative increases, individual(s) can be moved into smaller, more focused groups, but having done a lot of the basics already.

Whatever avenue is chosen, it’s really important that learners’ expectations are managed successfully.

Foreign language courses are not usually a short term-project and neither are they a one-way process. Learners need to understand what is expected of them in terms of commitment to attendance and the learning itself. Dialogue can offer support in creating a language strategy for your company through its Supporting Services – whether for training, cross-cultural coaching or indeed translations.

And should you need to brush up on a particular skill such as presentation, negotiating or telephone technique, we can support you and focus solely on that.

How does it work?

We start with an in-depth training needs analysis (TNA) and assessment of the proficiency level in the foreign language. From this we calculate the number of hours needed to achieve the objectives defined in the TNA.

We then determine the milestones, frequency of reviews and exams for each learner and language. It’s a collaborative process. You tell us what’s practical in terms of time and budget and we will do the rest.
